Why mediating by video works better for most couples
Florida courts have held mediation by video since 2020. For a couple with a short list, it’s usually the better format, not the compromise.

That opens the case and covers both spouses. Each of you gets your own login, password, and recovery email. We never tell one of you what the other has entered, or whether they’ve started.

Each of you completes the questions.
Structured questions, not essays: who keeps what, the timesharing schedule, support, insurance, taxes. Each spouse also completes a financial affidavit.

You choose a mediator.
Every directory listing shows certification, fee, and video platform. You contact and pay the mediator directly. Each of you tells us who you chose.

We send your mediator the comparison.
Every question marked agreed, different, or unanswered, with both affidavits, by secure transfer. Your mediator decides how and when you review it together.

You mediate online.
Usually one or two video sessions on the open items only. The child support worksheet is completed in the session. When you agree, your mediator records the terms on a term sheet, and both of you sign it.

The review covers

- Whether the agreement is fair to either of you
- Whether a judge is likely to approve any particular term
- Child support amounts, alimony, or how property is divided
- Any legal advice about your rights or options
- Anything a lawyer would tell you if you hired one
Questions couples ask first
Does my spouse see my answers?
No. Each of you has a separate login, and neither can see the other’s responses. Your mediator receives both sets in the comparison and decides how to walk you through the differences.
What if we have more than a few open issues?
The comparison will show that. If the two of you differ on most items, your mediator will tell you, and we’ll tell you plainly that this service isn’t the right fit. You’ve spent $99, not the full package price, and you know exactly where you stand.
Why is the price split in two?
So you don’t pay for documents before you know you’ll need them. The $99 Guided Interview gets you the comparison, which is where you find out how close you are. The document package, $199 without children or $349 with children, is charged only when your mediator sends us the signed term sheet. If mediation doesn’t produce an agreement, there is no second payment.
Do we have to use a mediator from the directory?
No. Any Florida Supreme Court certified family mediator can receive your comparison. The directory is there so you can find one who works online and publishes their fee.
Can we use the directory without buying anything?
Yes. The directory is free to search and free for mediators to be listed in. Many couples find a mediator first and open a case later, or never.
What does the mediator cost?
Each mediator sets their own fee and shows it on their listing. Many quote a flat rate for a two-session engagement. You pay the mediator directly; nothing passes between JusticeXpress and the mediator.
What if we choose the wrong option (children / no children)?
Tell us before you name a mediator and we’ll switch your case at no charge; the questionnaires are different, so you may have to answer a few more or a few fewer questions. The document package you buy at settlement is always the one that matches your signed term sheet, whichever button you started with.
We have children. Is that a problem?
No, but it changes the packet. A divorce with minor children is a regular dissolution, not a simplified one, and requires a parenting plan, financial affidavits, a child support guidelines worksheet, a UCCJEA affidavit, and a parenting course certificate. All of that is built into the process.
Is there a lawyer involved?
Not from us. We are a nonlawyer document preparation service, and mediators, even those who happen to be lawyers, act as neutrals and don’t represent either of you. Either of you can consult an attorney at any point, and we’ll say so if we think you should.
Does anything in this process use artificial intelligence?
No. The comparison is prepared by our staff as a field-by-field match of your answers against your spouse’s. Nothing from your case is placed in any AI tool or used to train one.
